
Heather Smith
The Cayman Islands Monetary
Heather Smith was appointed as Head of the Investments and Securities Division of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority on 1 June 2014, prior to which she served as the division’s Deputy Head from 2006 to 2014. On 1 March 2017, the Authority established a dedicated division for the supervision of securities investment business, the Securities Supervision Division, which separates out the supervision of such activity from the Investments and Securities Division, now renamed as the Investments Supervision Division. Ms. Smith now serves as Head of the Investments Supervision Division.
In this capacity, Ms. Smith is responsible for the authorisation and supervision of regulated hedge funds, fund administrators and securities investment business companies in the Cayman Islands and for directing a programme of continuous monitoring and inspection of licensed fund administrators and securities investment companies under the Securities Investment Business Law, the Mutual Funds Law, the Proceeds of Crime Law and the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations.
Ms. Smith, who has almost 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, has worked with the Authority for over 20 years. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Economics, as well as the Associate of the Securities Institute and Certified Anti-money Laundering Specialist qualifications.
