James Rasteh is the founder of Coast Capital, an investment management firm with an engaged approach to investing in public companies. Coast Capital works with a collection of leading CEO’s and sector experts to identify, conduct due diligence on, and help to create value from the companies that it invests in. Coast actively works to improve the ESG metrics of its invested companies.

Prior to starting Coast Capital, James was the founder of White Eagle Partners, a European event-driven fund which was started in partnership with a private equity firm. White Eagle out-performed its index by over 37% during its three year life. Previously, James was an International Portfolio Manager at JANA Partners, an event driven and activist hedge fund in New York. He is a guest lecturer at Columbia University, Oxford University and Warwick University.

Earlier in his career, James focused on international equities. His previous work experiences include a position as Managing Director at Sierra Global Management, a leading European hedge fund which was ranked as a best in class performer by MAR hedge. He also served as a European portfolio manager at Claiborne Capital.

A native of Vancouver, Canada, James holds a Dual degree in Genetics and Finance / Economics, Summa Cum Laude, from UBC. James has lived in the US, Canada, France, UK, and Asia. He is fluent in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Farsi, and has working knowledge of Mandarin.
