Matthew McGrath

Matt McGrath founded Emissary Partners with the thesis that global family offices would have rising needs at the intersection of (i) their growing alternative asset portfolios and (ii) the global and geopolitical risks that create impairments. Over a five-year period, he has led Emissary’s advisory practice in serving as a trusted advisor to leading family offices, building a track record in dealing with challenging legacy assets, and creating related offerings based on client needs. As chief executive of the firm, Matt is focused on growing a global advisory business that is impactful for clients and distinctive in its approach.

Matt founded Emissary Partners after nine years at the Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), the global commercial diplomacy firm headquartered in Washington, DC and founded by the late former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and the late former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger. At ASG, Matt helped corporate and private equity clients navigate over 40 emerging markets and held a number of leadership roles in management, business development, and practice leadership.

Matt began his career in international politics, working in the National Security Affairs Office of then-Vice President Joseph R. Biden at The White House as well as at the U.S. State Department, European Parliament, Democratic National Committee and the Office of the Governor of Massachusetts.

Matt also serves as an advisor to Arena, a New York-based global reputation advisory firm that serves as a sister practice to Emissary.

Today, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship in Washington, DC, as a Trustee of the International Churchill Society, and as a member of the Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle.

Matt holds a BA from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Oxford Saïd Business School, where he was a member of St. Antony’s College.
